SCOUTS

Having been somewhat restricted by the winter months, we have endeavoured to get the boys outside at every opportunity regardless of the weather, which is an achievement in itself but now we look forward to the lighter nights and good weather. Dennis is currently planning an exciting programme in true scouting style, concentrating on fresh air and freedom.

CUBS

Lou has now completed her objective in keeping our future members secure with the birth of Phoebe Ann. She has more than enough to cope with at the moment, so the youngsters have Ian, Sue and myself to keep on our toes and on the straight and narrow throughout the summer term. The objective will again be to get them out and about as and when we can, whilst working on the team spirit, which will bring its own unique challenges.

BEAVERS

The Beavers are growing in number, stature and confidence through the guidance of Suzanne and Julia who have given a concentrated effort towards numbers and badge work. This would appear to be reaping rewards on a much large scale than we thought. It's a wonderful platform to launch their Scouting careers.

GROUP

As you have read, the group is growing and events are becoming more time consuming, so again I ask for your help in fundraising and leadership. See below for further details. I would love to see Hartwell kept in high regard in the future as it has been in the past, mainly due to its leadership and backing by villagers, supporters and sense of Community Spirit.

Wanted - Mad, Fun Loving Adults!

  • 1st Hartwell Scout Group needs you to help run the Beavers, Cubs or Scouts.
  • You need to complete a Police Check (CRB) and do basic 2hrs training with 3 months.
Some questions you may want to ask:
  • Will I need further training? - Yes, mostly on the job - we just need to record your experience.
  • Will I ever need to go elsewhere for training? - It's up to you, you may want to do a First Aid Course or a "Nights Away" course to help with camping
(if you want to camp - you don't have to).
  • What sort of things do I need to do on group nights? - Assist with delivering the programme - in others words the section leader will have the evening planned and will ask you to help with activities - teaching you as we go along.
  • I don't know anything about camping, navigation and knots! - don't worry, you don't have to camp unless you want to. We do knots and map work with Cubs and Scouts but you can learn as we go along.
  • Will I have to wear a uniform? - well, it is part of scouting, but the group will pay for it and you don't have to wear it all the time!
  • Any more questions - see Pete or Dennis and they will do their best to answer them.

Remember - the more people to help, the less we all have to do!
