The Tuesday Circle is for the over 60’s in Hartwell and surrounding villages who meet on the first and third Tuesday each month from 2.00pm to 4.00pm in Hartwell Community Centre. The Tuesday Circle originated from an idea by Mrs Hunt, the Health Visitor for Hanslope Surgery and Mrs Chapman from Age Concern. In July 1997, an open meeting was held when the possibility of forming a Club was considered. A Committee was formed under the Chairmanship of
Mr K Horne with Mr R Dines as Secretary and Mrs Collison as Treasurer. Other members were Mrs Hunt, Mrs Chapman, Mrs Webster, Mrs Tatten and Mrs Geyton.

Only fourteen members attended our first meeting but the Committee set about organising speakers, musical entertainment, outings etc and we now have 50 plus at our meetings. In August 1997 Mr Alan Cross was invited by the Committee to become President and we were all delighted when he accepted. In July 2003 we celebrated our Sixth Birthday, during which time we have visited Chatsworth House, Blenheim Palace, Sandringham, Belvoir Castle, the Black Country Museum, etc. We have been cruising on the River Thames and visited Turners Musical Merry-Go-Round and the Royal and Derngate Theatres. We also have a fish and chip lunch twice a year and a Christmas lunch.

At other meetings we are entertained by Speakers on various interesting subjects. Mrs Hunt and Mrs Chapman, having seen their idea come to fruition, have now resigned but we have welcomed Mr Tatten and Mrs Wells to our Committee. New members are always welcome to join us at our meetings. There is no Membership Fee, just £1.20p per meeting, which includes refreshments. We also have a raffle with many useful prizes. HARTWELL TUESDAY CIRCLE PROGRAMME FOR 2005

Our members continue to enjoy our twice-monthly meetings and we’ve had a very successful summer. Here are some examples:

  • We had a short coach tour of South Northants with tea at the Old Dairy Farm at Stowe.
  • Mr Elliott of Grendon gave a slide show and talk on butterflies and their habitats.
  • Mr Cliff Billing and Mr John Walton from Wardington Court for the Blind gave us an afternoon of musical entertainment.
  • Mr Michael Boss gave us a very interesting talk on his year of office as Mayor of Northampton.
  • Our next coach trip took us on a tour of East Northants stopping for a lovely tea at the Rothwell home of Mr and Mrs P Uzzell.
  • In July, we had an enjoyable tour of the Cotswolds with lunch at the Cotswold Animal Park.
  • We then celebrated our seventh birthday with a party, a cream tea, birthday cake and a glass of wine and followed this with entertainment by “Zing” with songs we could all join in with.
  • On Sunday September 5th we had a “Songs of Praise” in our church with Cliff Billing and John & Daisy Walton. A large congregation enjoyed a selection of well-known hymns and poems. The collection amounted to £250.00, which was shared between the Church and Wardington Court for the Blind.
Our thanks to the Reverend Mike Burton for his support and co-operation.
  • Mrs Anita Smith came again to update us on life at the Bansang Hospital in the Gambia. The raffle and donations realised £150.00, which would be spent on anti-biotics to save children’s lives.
  • Mrs Slater gave us a wonderful demonstration of sugar icing and donated the cake she iced as a prize for our raffle.

Next year’s programme is now being arranged.

Why not come and spend a pleasant afternoon with us, you will always be welcome.
