Known as the “Plough Inn” for many years, the building was sold by the Watney Mann Brewery Group in 1971 as they felt it was not profitable enough to have two public houses run by the same brewery so close to one another in the village. It then became Hartwell and District Conservative Club. The original building dates to around the early 1700s, being shown on the 1727 map as belonging to Thomas Church. The building has undergone many alterations over the years, having had extensions built on at various times, as well as internal alterations in the 1970s and again more recently. Various events such as race nights, raffles, quizzes and pool, crib,
dominoes and darts competitions are held throughout the year. New members
are always welcome. Telephone 01604 862497 for more information.
