Interesting Places and Walks

The map to the left (click to enlarge) shows footpaths around Holcot. We are very fortunate to have access to the Southern Section of the Pitsford Reservoir providing a cycle and walking track which is highly recommended. The adjacent field off the southern bank makes an attractive alternative and links to the Reservoir path at two points to make circular routes. On all footpaths, the landowners insist that all dogs are kept on a lead.

Country Park and Cycling
From the roundabout at the Northampton end of the Brixworth by-pass there is an access road leading down to Pitsford Reservoir with the Sailing Club (see below) and the Country Park. This Park is a recent venture and offers a large range of facilities. There is a café, education centre, shop, exhibitions, cycle hire centres and a large car park. The Country Park contains a wide selection of walks and planted areas with disabled access. It also connects to the track which goes around the whole of the southern section of the reservoir which can be used by walkers and cyclists.

Pitsford Reservoir Fishing Lodge
This 750 acre reservoir is owned by Anglian Water and is very popular for Fly Fishing. Permits and Motor Boats for hire are available from the Fishing Lodge. (01604) 781350

Sailing
Pitsford Reservoir is also home to the Northampton Sailing Club which is situation at the southern end with access fromt he A508 south of Brixworth. The club hosts fleets of Mirror, GP14, Solo and other classes. The Clubhouse has excellent changing and social facilities with a beautiful view over the reservoir. (01604) 880248

Wildlife
The northern end of the reservoir is a Nature Reserve managed by the Northamptonshire Wildlife Trust and is home to a variety of wildlife and many protected species. Access is restricted but Permits with a Guided Walk Leaflet can be obtained from the Fishing Lodge. The area offers excellent opportunities for bird watching. Hides and display boards are provided to help you identify the wildlife. No dogs are allowed on the reserve. For further details, contact:
