Wappenham's
last pub closed in 1970 and the Village Shop/Post Office closed in November
2010. It was no longer financially viable. Villagers were sad to see
it go and are now looking at alternatives.
The Village
Hall and Silver Lake are the only two amenities in the village.
Thanks
to the hard work of its committee who managed to secure funding, the
village hall has been
refurbished. It has wheelchair access and 3 new toilets of which one
if for wheelchair users. The main hall has been redecorated and it is
really a great venue. The cost per hour is very affordable. To find
out more just follow the link on the left.
There is
also a playground,
more information regarding the playground will be posted at a later
date.
Silver
Lake - Built as a farm reservoir well over a decade ago,
it has since been stocked and matured as a fishery and now holds a superb
head of carp, roach, bream and some crucians too. The lake is some 3.5
acres, depths vary from 3 feet to 15 or so. There are some 20 comfortable
pegs, a mown path all round and a road side car park just 50 yards walk
from the water. More
