WAPPENHAM RECREATION ASSOCIATION

Camp Out 2010 Photos

The WRA (Wappenham Recreation Association) was formed around 12-14 years ago by Wappenham parents to provide a playground for the children of the village. Following fundraising, planning submissions and a lot of hard work the current playground was constructed with a 15 year lease from an Oxford University College.

The WRA main function is to maintain the current playground in the form of grass mowing, weed killing, bark replacement and general repairs to fencing and equipment. Along with maintenance the playground has other costs such as insurance, ROSPRA inspections, rent etc. These costs are met purely by fundraising done by the WRA through the year with approximately £800 required to break even. The main fund raising event of the last two years has been the fete.

As the lease is coming close to its end, the WRA have been reviewing options of how best to secure a playground for the village that will require less funding to keep it operational. There are a few options being reviewed but what ever is thought to be the best option will require some much larger scale fund raising efforts. Once a plan has been agreed we will advise of our plan and would hope we can get as much support for it as possible from the village.
