POST OFFICE TO CONTINUE!
(article from winter 07 newsletter)

I was relieved today to read that our Post Office is not to be closed [Subject to the public ‘consultation’ – Ed]. Wonderful news! This will enable our village stores to remain a facility that is so central to our village. What a relief for myself and the older people in this village who don't have the opportunities to get to the large towns and supermarkets.

When we moved into Wappenham 20 years ago, we were given this advice by well-meaning neighbours: "Shop at the Post Office stores and be kind to the post lady". This has indeed been good advice. The Post Office store has helped me out in my life in many, many ways: it was a place to go to meet up with a welcome smile when suffering from depression; a saviour when out of ingredients in the middle of baking; food for unexpected visitors; payment of bills; stamps for the business; a convenient place to send parcels; a save on petrol and time in getting newspapers and magazines; a place to advertise small items for sale, and many more reasons which don't spring to mind just now.

I would like to encourage Wappenham village people to use it. Try buying something from there at least once a week if you haven't already done so. See what delights are on the shelves that you may not be able to find anywhere else. I buy my ham from the shop as it is known as the best ham in the area and I think so too. Can anyone else recommend something from there that you buy? [I’ll publish them- Ed]

So come on everyone, let’s get behind a very important facility in our community and give them our support.
