Prie-Dieu Chair
Upholsterer: Pat Coulton
| Prie-Dieu - The back
This chair is a wonderful Prie-Dieu with rich mahogany wood. It was beautifully restored by the Trish who is an antique dealer and has been doing upholstery for over 10 years. The first stage was to stuff the back with horsehair and as you can see, many stuffing stitches have been created all around the edges and the centre of the chair, as well as a rolled edge. |
Skin Wadding
Once the back horsehair was secured and stitched, itreceived a layer of skin wadding. This helps to make the chair more comfortable and creates an interface between the horsehair and the top fabric. |

Top Cover The top fabric was then cut to size and positioned on the back of the chair. The fabric is stretched at this point to ensure that it does not sag and is very tight against the stuffing. Upholsetery skewers are used to secure the fabric in place.

Top Cover This is an upright view of the Prie-Dieu with the fabric firmly secured and taut.
